Welcome to Tropic Quilts

Laura of Tropic Quilts

I'm Laura, a quilter and textile artist in South Florida who loves color, texture, precision, and – you guessed it – the tropics.

I’m drawn to bold geometric designs and modern simplicity, but I’m also not afraid to dive into a project with thousands of pieces. I like to keep things joyful and fun, while honoring the traditional roots of quilting in American life.

My quilts are made to be lived with and loved – beautiful objects that are part of your daily life. I make baby quilts, throws to snuggle on the sofa, bed quilts, wall art, and pillows.

Check out my shop to view quilts for sale. If you have something specific in mind, I also make quilts on commission. Contact me to learn more.

My mom taught me how to quilt when I was in graduate school, and it grew into an all-consuming passion. When I moved to Hawaii for my first job, I didn’t bring much with me but my sewing machine, which took up valuable space in my checked baggage!

I’ve been drawn to the ocean since childhood, and it has certainly influenced many aspects of my life, including my quilting. I am captivated by the colors, patterns, and diversity of life above and below the water. From the picturesque coastlines, the ever-changing moods of the sky, and the brilliance of the water, the tropics fill my soul and inspire my work as a quilter.

Outside of the quilt studio, you can find me outdoors enjoying the water, whether it's scuba diving, paddle boarding, or walking along the shore. And there’s nothing better than spotting a sea turtle or a manatee!
